EK Health Kiosk for GP Practices
What is the EK Health Kiosk?
Our kiosk allows patients to answer health questions from our library of 18 plus Care Pathways and take vital signs measurements independently of a clinician. Results are seamlessly integrated into the patient record using SNOMED coding. This streamlines the patient flow without compromising on care whilst capturing QOF data, saving clinical time and freeing up appointment time.
Pathways can also be customised to the requirements of the practice and we can personalise what reviews and assessments a patient sees. Alerts for irregular readings can be set to trigger notifications within the practice as well as onscreen messages for the patient.
"The Kiosk is being very helpful with our NHS Healthchecks, it has reduced the time our HCA spends with the patient by 15 minutes a patient. Rather than booking out half an hour we now book for 15 minutes and ask the patient to attend 10 mins before their appt to use the kiosk for all of the questions and readings. We are just about to step it up gradually for height, weight & BPs for all attending patients before they have their appointments.”

KEY BENEFITS

Collect QOF data through the kiosk

When you only have 10 minutes to spend with your patients, doing more with each moment is critical. EK Health Kiosks can take care of blood pressure, height and weight and take patients through pathway questionnaires so that, when your patient is sitting in front of you, you’ll already have this information to hand.

How does it work?
The patient logs into the kiosk with their name and date of birth, which are verified against the patient record, to complete questionnaires and assessments relevant to them. Results are SNOMED coded into their patient record where they can be reviewed by a clinician. QOF-generating questionnaires can be prioritised.
Asthma Pathway
Average practice size in 2021 = 9085 patients
Asthma disease prevalence = 6.48%
If 588 patients take their asthma review on the kiosk:
= contributes to £14,000 in QOF income (indicators AST007, AST008)
AND
= potential time-cost saving of £5,887
Blood Pressure Pathway
Average practice size in 2021 = 9085 patients
Hypertension prevalence = 26.4%
If 2398 patients check their Blood Pressure on the kiosk:
= contributes to £7,543 in QOF income (indicator BP002)
AND
= potential time-cost saving of £23,000
*Ony applicable if the current % of patients meeting the outcome is between the minimum and maximum threshold for the indicator
**Disease prevalence figures taken from the QOF 2019-20 publication dashboard
***% population over 45 calculated from the 2011 census
SAVE CLINICAL TIME
Let's see how an EK Health Kiosk works in practice
The Practice:
- 15,000 patients
- EK Health Kiosk installed Oct 2024
- Results uploaded directly to EMIS

The practice purchased the kiosk as part of work to take care of routine QOF data collection and provide an alternative to HCA appointments for routine monitoring and reviews.

Strategically launched with just two questionnaires covering a hypertension review and BP, Height, Weight and BMI.

After 6 months a total of 2,508 sessions completed on the kiosk!

Looking Ahead: Expanding Kiosk Usage into Other Areas

Building on their initial success, this practice is now exploring further opportunities to leverage their EK Health Kiosk. They are collaborating with their clinical leads to integrate additional pathway questionnaires such as those for Asthma and Diabetes reviews. The potential for time savings here is substantial - an estimated 10 minutes saved per appointment by capturing vital information before the consultation even begins.
What's included?
The EK Health Kiosk kit comes as standard with a touch screen kiosk; medical grade ‘in-arm’ BP unit; medical grade height and weight unit; NHS approved health tests. We offer as optional modules: pulse oximeter and thermometer, both with relevant pathways.
We’ll install it and we will be on hand if you or your team need help at any time. In order to get you connected we will need access to a plug socket and an internet point. A full remote site survey will be completed prior to installation, and we can have you up and running in a matter of weeks
