Digital Health in Practice

The Stamford Surgery, Lincolnshire

The Challenge

The Stamford Surgery wanted to improve how it captured key medical information for routine care, long-term conditions. Like many practices, they faced increasing pressure on clinic time, long call waits, and rising admin demands. Capturing accurate blood pressure and BMI readings was especially difficult for working-age patients who couldn’t easily attend during core clinic hours.

“We were hoping to reduce clinic times, improve efficiency, and allow patients to take ownership of providing their own information.”

Michelle Inwood, Operation and Compliance Manager

The Stamford Surgery is part of Lakeside Healthcare, a large GP partnership. While this case study focuses on their experience specifically, the Digital Health Station is live in 12 Lakeside practices and has been widely adopted across the group.

The Change

In November 2023, The Stamford Surgery installed a Digital Health Station in its Sheepmarket site to support patient-initiated data collection for core health checks. The station enabled patients to complete a wide range of health questionnaires and vital sign checks, including blood pressure, weight, and height, independently and without the need for clinical appointments.

To maximise success, the practice delivered in-house training across all departments, appointed a team of “Health Kiosk Champions,” and embedded usage into everyday patient communication and triage pathways.

“Set-up was well managed, and we ensured staff were confident in supporting patients. All reception staff are now Health Kiosk Champions - and they feel empowered in those roles.”

EK has also supported Lakeside Healthcare to align and customise questionnaire templates across the partnership, helping ensure consistent, clinically relevant experiences across all sites.

“Patients appreciate the flexibility and ease of use.

It fits better into their busy lives.”

The Impact

In the last six months of use, over 1,450 health check sessions were completed via the Digital Health Station.

The Blood Pressure pathway consistently led usage, with over 780 sessions recorded - helping the practice capture essential data and improve medication reviews. Uptake was also strong across General Health Checks and other preventive pathways, including NHS Health Checks, Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and Menopause.

Activity over the last 6 months includes:

  • Blood Pressure Checks: 784 sessions

  • General Health Checks: 144 sessions

  • Total Sessions: 1,456

Additional pathways seeing strong uptake include:

  • NHS Health Checks

  • Asthma monitoring

  • COPD reviews

  • Menopause pathways

“The kiosks have been a great success, with patients responding positively to them. There is regular contact with the team at EK Interactive, and kiosk review meetings can be booked to make any necessary template changes to ensure alignment with practice processes.”

The Hub Manager, The Stamford Surgery

“Notifications following health alerts have been really beneficial - both for patient safety and internal workflows.”

What Next?

The Stamford Surgery is continuing to expand usage of the station and explore further pathway adoption.

EK will continue to support the team with training refreshers, usage reporting, and integration advice - ensuring the Digital Health Station remains a valuable and embedded part of daily care.

“We’ve found the Health Kiosk most beneficial - for patients and for us. Clinical time and care have significantly improved.”

The consistent monthly use of the station is a strong signal of sustained patient engagement and increasing trust in the model. The practice also reported:

  • Reduced clinical and admin time

  • Shorter call wait times

  • Improved data accuracy and patient record quality

  • Quicker response to health alerts and safety concerns
